Fantastic storytelling by www.everynone.com
The first video "Words" is slickly shot, produced and edited and is both inspirational and thought provoking. The second video "Words" has been re-edited using only video images found on YouTube. Same story, different videos..still powerful.

Unfortunately no time to rest since your next big project in advertising is with MODA
next Thursday at 11:30. I've edited the original version of what should be presented down to only 4 aspects of your campaign.

Here is what you will need to show them (5-7 minutes for each presentation)
The work should be boarded. There should be 4 boards approx.

1.LOGO:
Logo Design (mounted) I would create it in Color and in Black and white and place them together on the same board. Color on the top. Black/White on bottom.

2.POSTER:
12x 18 Poster that will advertise the World AIDS Day event at MODA. (mounted)
We will print a larger version for the December 1st Event later.

3. BROCHURE:
The brochure (could be a trifold/gate fold or front/back for xeroxing to give to visitors to the MODA event....this should show scheduled events that will happen during the 24 hour event at MODA...using the information below. (several should be actually printed so you can physically give it to them and then one mounted/front and back.) You should think how you want this to appear. Possibly as a 8.5x11 sheet or a single folded invitation or a postcard or folded invite or whatever format you decide. Take into consideration these will need to be printed quickly so it might have to be in-house and how you would apply something beautiful to your design that can be printed quickly and inexpensively.
You should print several of these to give to Brenda and Laura that day and have one boarded.

4. INTERSTITIALS:
Several concepts on how you would create a "Buzz" about this special day through some type of advertising or marketing campaign. (Bus Kiosk/Mall Kiosk/Bus Wrap/Motion design/Guerilla posters/ Facebook/Twitter concepts and any other type of concepts you might foresee in helping get people to the event. Ideas should be boarded.
*If you have a motion design I would suggest you storyboard it (take freezes from the animation.)
You also need to show that on you computer. I wouldn't rely on MODA having a computer to play your animations.

MODA Presentation is Set for Thursday November 3rd

This has not been totally confirmed by all parties but it is tentatively scheduled at MODA on Thursday November 3rd at 11:30 at the museum.

Again, quick turnaround from the HLN assignment but you've been working on it as well so I'm certain you can make this successful.

We'll go over everything due for MODA this week at some point.

Obama for America is seeking poster submissions from artists across the country illustrating why we support President Obama's plan to create jobs now, and why we'll re-elect him to continue fighting for jobs for the next four years.

Your poster can address the broader themes of the President's plan or pinpoint a specific aspect, from supporting small businesses to rebuilding roads and bridges for the 21st century. For more on the desired specs, read the creative brief.

We'll pick the 12 best submissions received by November 4th, 2011, then put the finalists to a vote. Three winners will receive a framed print of their poster signed by President Obama and a limited edition of their poster will be sold in the

You can make your poster about that broad theme, or focus on a specific aspect: why we've got to rebuild and modernize our roads and bridges, help veterans find work once they've returned home from service, support the small businesses that are the engine of our economy, make sure teachers can stay in their classrooms, and so on.

The posters should include the words from one of the suggested slogans below or visually interpret the concepts they represent.

The campaign will choose 12 finalists once the submission period closes on November 4, 2011, then put the finalists to a vote.

Finalists will be chosen based on the following criteria:

* Adherence to stated theme: Why you support President Obama's plan to create jobs now and his re-election campaign to continue fighting for jobs for the next four years.
* Appropriateness of tone: Conveying determination and strength
* Creativity and aesthetics
* Quality of workmanship

Three winners will get a framed print of their poster signed by President Obama and a limited edition of their poster will be sold in the campaign store with proceeds benefiting the campaign.

* Deadline: November 4, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Submissions after November 4, 2011 will not be eligible.
* Poster designs should be 16” x 20”.

There is a mandatory rehearsal in 211 for your teams HLN Presentation on Tuesday October 25th beginning at 11am. NO later.

You should rehearse before you even get to the classroom rehearsal. The Classroom rehearsal is to the other teams and for feedback/critique before the HLN presentation on Thursday October 27th in CMC 460 at 11am.

Tuesday October 25th: Rehearsal
Everyone should have their presentations ready and already rehearsed before you arrive to the classroom to rehearse with the entire groups. I suggest getting together over the weekend to go through your presentation and time yourself. These should not be any longer than 10-12 minutes. Thereby leaving time for questions. They can be shorter if you so desire.

-Introduction of your team.
-State your advertising campaign briefly.
-Perhaps You can make references to the directives that HLN gave to you originally.
By doing so you acknowledge their initial request and what Scot requested you to consider.
-Start your presentation and before you end restate your campaign with some affirmation
that you had solved it or created a campaign that HLN could use in December and on their forthcoming website.
Thank them. Give them anything else you wish to leave them with.
-Q&A

Thanks Mario, Jacolby, Toni, John and Misty (and Friends)

Thanks also to Jon Hart who did an incredible job in preparing the artwork for the 5,000 MODA Invitational cards that we gave out today. Also a big Shout Out to the wonderful design that Sarah created that graced these cards. Everyone worked as a team
and I couldn't be more proud.

Thanks to each of you for coming out today for the MODA AIDS Walk invitation giveaway!
You were great to be so unselfish with your time and energy...plus it was a beautiful day to be on Peachtree and Piedmont Park being a part of something much larger than yourself. I loved getting to hang out with you for a little while! Thanks again!

The Gap Slashes Stores: What Went Wrong and How They Can Fix It
By Peter Gorenstein

Remember when the Gap was cool?

Neither do we. Perhaps that's why this once great retailer continues to struggle.

The company says it plans to close about 200 stores in the U.S. by 2013, that amounts to one in every five stores in North America, in favor of expanding in international markets.

The Gap -- owner of Old Navy and Banana Republic -- has been plagued for years by falling sales and lower profits as it's been forced to perpetually discount goods in order to move product. Same-store sales fell 4% year over year in September, the worst showing of all 23 major retailers tracked by Thomson Reuters.

"The company targets the middle-income market, which often leaves it stuck between discounters and upscale brands," notes an article in Friday's Los Angeles Times. Howard Davidowitz, president of Davidowitz & Associates and a long-time retail industry insider, says the Gap's problems are far simpler than that. They are not selling fashion people want to own.

There's no fundamental reason why the Gap can't succeed. "Denim is great," he says pointing to successful brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Lucky Brand and American Eagle to name a few.

The fundamental problem is that the Gap lacks strong fashion sense. Davidowitz blames the CEO. Glenn Murphy is a very competent executive, but lacks the experience needed to right the ship. "Fashion people win in fashion companies," Davidowitz explains in the accompanying clip. "I've never seen a numbers guy come in and be successful in a fashion company. I've never seen one example of it."

The company not only needs to shrink the number of stores, it also needs to reduce the size of stores. "The stores are too big," Davidowitz says. "The stores are over-sized given what's going on with the internet."

Even with all their problems, it's not too late for The Gap. Davidowitz says if they replace the CEO with a great merchandiser, all could be fixed. Many retailers have done it before. In fact, Gap did it once before when they brought in their former CEO Mickey Drexler. Then, Drexler did it again when he took the helm at J. Crew.

"If he went back to the Gap I would put a lot of money on the Gap," notes Davidowitz.
